HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

BY: Christina
“REFASHION AN OLD BACKPACK”
School has started and your mom is making you use last year’s backpack. Don’t be sad… learn how you can turn an old bag into something
NEW & FAB and totally one of a kind!
Check out this BEFORE & AFTER shot.
Materials you will need: Old Backpack, Hot Glue Gun, Fabric Glue, Scrap Fabric, Ribbon, Buttons, and anything you have handy and want to add to the backpack.
First, if there is anything on the front of the bag, remove it. Next, take a piece of  paper and trace the shape of the front of your bag. Use the paper to size your fabric correctly. Once your fabric is the right size use fabric glue and glue it on the front of your bag. You can use different colored fabrics and add them on there anyway you’d like.
Next, take the ribbon and line it along the edges of the fabric and any other place you desire to have it. If you would like to embellish your bag with a flower, take three different sized cookie cutters and trace each flower on a different color fabric. Next cut the flowers out, layer them and glue them together. If you want you can even glue a button to the center of the flower.
And voila… a new backpack!
And that is HOW WE DO THAT!!! Happy Crafting!

Christina is 13 and in the 8th grade and recently started her own blog and Facebook page called: Christina’s Special Creations. She was inspired to start blogging by her mom, who is the blogger behind Crissy Crafts. She hopes her love for making easy crafts and sweet treats will help her become a BIG TIME blogger like her mom one day. Christina is also the big sister to two younger siblings ages 9 and 3. Although neither of her siblings are on the spectrum, she does have close family friends who are. That is why Christina is so excited to be a part of Shout Out Online Magazine. When we were talking about what the theme for March should be, I said Spring which made Grace think of Butterflies. Then she got all excited and said , "YES... Butterflies. How to help your sibling SOAR... you know giving them Wings!" And well it took off from there. I love this idea, because that is exactly what we hope this magazine does to you all... offers you support and encouragement to test your own wings out. Then and only then can you feel comfortable to help your sibling soar. We can't wait to hear how far you and your sibling FLY! Happy Spring everyone. Here's to spreading your wings! Love, Mama and Grace

You Gotta Read THIS…

WonderJay is reading this book in school and said it is a MUST read and would be perfect for this issues You Gotta Read book. We agree. Just take a look at what Amazon says about the book WONDER! August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
