How Color Can Affect Your Mood

by Grace  and Sharon Fuentes

While taking a walk the other day we noticed how looking at the fall leaves made us feel, well happy! We love FALL- the cool air, leaves falling and of course HALLOWEEN! But what is it exactly that makes us feel so good when we see all the colors? Can colors you see or wear really affect your mood? We decided to do some research, and guess what? THEY DO AFFECT YOU. Check out how each color is supposed to make you feel, then try it out yourself and see if it’s true. Don’t forget to come back here and tell us what you discover.

Let’s Start with the FALL COLORS.

YELLOW:: There is a reason why the smiley face is always yellow. Yup Yellow is supposed to make you feel cheerful and happy. But did you know that it is also associated with inspiration and intelligence. So the next time you have a big test, wear something yellow. It might not make you get the answers right but it could make you smile!

RED: The color of LOVE and passion. (I know gross right?) But did you know that red is also known to stimulate your appetite. That is why so many restaurants use it in their decor. So if you’re on a diet you might want to stay away from the color of AMORE!

ORANGE: This color is supposed to make you feel excited and give you energy. It is also a warm color that makes others feel welcomed. Grace says the next time she has PE she is going to wear something orange.  Others might feel more welcomed to pass her the ball!

No wonder we feel so good when we are surrounded by fall leaves!!! Here are what other colors might make you feel.

BLUE: Kind of ironic that people who are feeling sad are said to be feeling “BLUE” because actually blue is supposed to make you feel calm and relaxed. So if you are feeling stressed… just look up at the sky!

GREEN: Green is the most common color found in nature. It is said to make one feel less stressed and refreshed. Kermit the frog might not think it is easy being green but others find the color very appealing. That is why many hospitals and doctor’s offices paint the walls green and actors sit in a “GREEN ROOM” before going on stage.

PURPLE: (The color of Grace’s room) Like orange and red, purple is know to stimulate and energize. It is also known as the color of royalty and creativity. Hmmm… perhaps that is why Grace always feels like drawing while sitting in her room!

WHITE: This is the color associated with feeling peaceful and innocent. It is also said to make you feel light and clean.  Every time we wear white it is a sure invitation for someone to spill something on us thus making whatever we wear no longer white or clean.

BLACK- They say to wear black for a job interview and not just because it possibly makes you look thinner. Nope black is said to make you feel serious, powerful and responsible. If black makes you feel all these strong GOOD traits, why does the BAD GUY in the movies always wear black?

When we were talking about what the theme for March should be, I said Spring which made Grace think of Butterflies. Then she got all excited and said , "YES... Butterflies. How to help your sibling SOAR... you know giving them Wings!" And well it took off from there. I love this idea, because that is exactly what we hope this magazine does to you all... offers you support and encouragement to test your own wings out. Then and only then can you feel comfortable to help your sibling soar. We can't wait to hear how far you and your sibling FLY! Happy Spring everyone. Here's to spreading your wings! Love, Mama and Grace

You Gotta Read THIS…

WonderJay is reading this book in school and said it is a MUST read and would be perfect for this issues You Gotta Read book. We agree. Just take a look at what Amazon says about the book WONDER! August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
