5 Things To Do With All Your Halloween Candy- BESIDES EAT IT!

For days you slaved putting together the perfect costume to wear. Finally the night came and you donned your special button and Tricked or Treated for yourself and your little brother who just can’t handle the chaos that comes with Halloween. You returned home happy and with TWO bags of sugary loot. You and your siblings have partaken in the GREAT CANDY TRADE where you handed your little Bro a Twix Bar in exchange for 3 Tootsie Pops. Your mom has taken her share of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and your dad laid claim to the Almond Joys. And still you are left with a mound of candy as high as the Himalayas. Even you know there is no way you could possibly eat that much candy. So… what do you do with all this caloric bits of heaven?

1.) DONATE IT- Many dentist have special Candy BUYBACK programs that will actually pay you sometimes up to a $1 a pound for your Halloween stash. Then they take the non perishable sweets and donate it to the organization OPERATION GRATITUDE who send the yummy goodness to U.S. Troops stationed overseas. You can by pass the middle man and contact the organization yourself if you want. For more info visit their website: http://www.operationgratitude.com.

2.) BAKE WITH IT- So you gave away all the Smarties and Now and Laters but what about all the chocolate. Chocolate melts and therefore you can’t send it through the mail… but you can BAKE WITH IT!!! Use bits of chopped-up candy bars instead of chocolate chips the next time you make cookies or brownies. Or melt down a Snickers Bar and add it to a chocolate cake mix for a crowd pleasing chocolate lovers dream! Wow my mouth is watering just reading this!

3.) MAKE A TURKEY PINATA-
Start a new tradition this Thanksgiving by having a Turkey Pinata at the end of the festive meal. It is a fun project to make and you can use your leftover Halloween candy to fill it! For step by step instructions on how to make this fun filled fowl, visit the Website SPOONFUL.

4.) DECORATE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE- Save some of those Skittles and M&Ms and use them to decorate your very own Gingerbread house.

5.) EXPERIMENT WITH IT- This one is our favorite! All those times that your parents told you not to play with your food… now you get to. All in the name of science of course. Do you know that the M from an M&M or the S from a Skittle will float right off the hard candy? Want to see sparks in your mouth? Want to learn how to make a rainbow in a bowl ? learn about these experiments and many more at Candy Experiments.

Editors Note: We found the Trick or Treat Collecting Candy for my Brother button on ZAZZLE. We think this a great idea and a great way that you can still make your brother and sister feel like they were part of the fun, without all the actual noise and stuff.

When we were talking about what the theme for March should be, I said Spring which made Grace think of Butterflies. Then she got all excited and said , "YES... Butterflies. How to help your sibling SOAR... you know giving them Wings!" And well it took off from there. I love this idea, because that is exactly what we hope this magazine does to you all... offers you support and encouragement to test your own wings out. Then and only then can you feel comfortable to help your sibling soar. We can't wait to hear how far you and your sibling FLY! Happy Spring everyone. Here's to spreading your wings! Love, Mama and Grace

You Gotta Read THIS…

WonderJay is reading this book in school and said it is a MUST read and would be perfect for this issues You Gotta Read book. We agree. Just take a look at what Amazon says about the book WONDER! August Pullman was born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
